Lost Weight

I’ve lost weight. You can, too. Your Home for God exists to encourage and empower women to achieve the growth and change in their lives that God desires for them. This is Part 2 of My Weight loss Story. Read Part 1, here: How I Lost 50 Pounds

The biggest reason I wanted and needed to lose weight was because I felt so convicted that I wasn’t obeying God’s promptings and directions, because I didn’t have the energy, strength or stamina due to being overweight.

I disobeyed God, because I was carrying around so much weight that needed to be lost. And, I felt guilty. That seriously affected my relationship with Him.

Lost Weight or Not God Can Use You

God can use me whether I’ve lost weight or not. But, God can use me more, if I’m fully surrendered to Him. He is more glorified in a body that is disciplined, and stewarded well, than one that is not.

A home that has a broken fence and weeds in the garden and grass that needs to be mowed, doesn’t bring God glory, as does one that is well cared for. We are called to be good stewards of what we’ve been given.

What in the world could you do if you lost weight?

God wants your body, not just your soul

Man looks on the outward appearance, it’s true, and God looks on the heart.

But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.

1 Samuel 16:7

Because God is the One Who matters. He sees our heart and that matters most. We use that verse so frequently to dismiss the outward appearance. Well, that’s true, as far as it goes.

Lost Weight Means God Has Power In Our Lives

In the world, however, where we live, we want to influence people to believe in Christ, to follow Him, and in a sense, to be like us! They’re certainly going to look at our lives and at our outward appearance, and decide if they believe in the power of Christ, based upon what they see.

What does my life say about my Powerful, Loving God? God looks on the heart, but man does look on the outward appearance, on the body, so let’s do what we can to keep it in good shape and lovely! Let’s at least not be a stumbling block for others.

The above Before and After Pictures aren’t at my highest or my lowest weights!  I’m still on the Journey with you.

Someday, God will ask me what I did with what He gave me, and I will have to give account. What have I done with this body He has given me. With the gifts. Have I been a good steward? Have I been a doer of the Word, or just a hearer?

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

James 1:22

Heart Change Involves Cleansing it of Idols

Glutton is in the same sentence as drunkard, in the Bible, and is condemned. The result of being a glutton is said to be poverty.

For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty;

Proverbs 23:21

I really can’t get around the fact that it’s sin, reading the Scriptures. However, it is a symptom of a much deeper heart problem! God convicted me that I’d compromised, and convicted me of things in my life that I was addicted to. Not necessarily bad things, but I’m not to let anything take control of me, except the Holy Spirit.

If I turn to anything to give me what God promises He provides, and is a characteristic of God the Father, Son or Holy Spirit, I have made an idol in my life. Being overweight was a symptom, one of many, of a heart that was un-surrendered to Christ. I implore you to surrender every area of your heart and life to Christ. What in the world can God do through you, if you are fully surrendered to Him? If you are available to Him, if you are empty of self, and full of the Holy Spirit?

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.

2 Chronicles 16:9

“If I turn to anything to give me what God promises He alone provides, and is a characteristic of God the Father, Son or Holy Spirit, I have made an idol in my life.”

Where Do You Turn For Comfort, Strength and Rest

My strength is in the Lord. God wants to give my soul rest.

God says, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Matthew 11:28-29

God says the Holy Spirit is the Comforter.

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 14:26

If I turn to food, a chick-flick, any music, media, person, or any other thing, for comfort, strength, or rest, I have made them an idol. Can I experience comfort, be strengthened, or find rest in other ways? Yes, but, you know in your heart, just as I did, when you are turning, in an addicted way, to something you shouldn’t. And, if you don’t know where He wants you to change, ask Him to show you. He will let you know!

Let Your Body Be Controlled by the Holy Spirit

Let nothing have dominion over you.

Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

Romans 6:16

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

There are many areas in life where we must practice moderation. This is a lifelong battle. Food is one of them. Obviously, we have to eat. But, we often eat for other reasons than because we’re hungry, or to keep alive and stay healthy

What role does food have in your life? I learned how to control my appetite, through the choices of foods I eat. This is one of the most amazing things I want to teach you, and have you experience.

I am considering offering a weight loss course to you, if there is enough interest. Would you like to know how to control your appetite? Do you want to lose 30, 40 or 50 pounds? If you lost weight, what in the world could you do? What in the world could God do through you, if you lost weight? Is God speaking to you that it’s time to change?

You can change! God can do it. And, I would love to help you. God gives the power, but there are many things I can teach you that will help get you eating healthy and losing weight.

“There is no change that lasts and bears spiritual fruit, that does not start with heart change.”
